The Bavaria C42 is the winner of the 2021 boat world's Oscar, European Yacht of the Year. The new C42 had a celebrated premiere at the Düsseldorf boat show in 2020. International media reported on a 2-hour queue to see the boat. Once aboard, you understand the interest. The C42 is a big step forward and demonstrates the future of the cruising class. Generous interior spaces and a modern design combined with performance signed by multiple world champion Fabrizio Cosutti. Bavaria has always been known for comfortable boats, but the C42 has an exclusive finish previously only seen on the yard's larger models. A novelty is the self-tacking jib as standard, perfect for our Swedish waters with many islands to navigate around. The sail plan is configured for good performance even with the smaller area it provides, worthy of a designer of world champion boats. The hull has an innovative design with fuller sterns, which provides more interior space, but also a smoother and more balanced ride while sailing. The easier handling is further improved by bringing all functions to the cockpit, and to the helmsman.
Many light inlets, exclusive woodwork, numerous options for finishing, several layout options— with the C42, there are all possibilities to create your dream boat. The layout options in the C42 range from two to three cabins and one or two bathrooms. The version with two cabins provides an extremely large storage space in the aft, accessible from the salon. The L-shaped galley on the port side and the WC with separate toilet/shower and sink areas on the starboard side are common to all versions. The salon is characterized by the spacious U-shaped sofa on the starboard side. If you have guests, the table can be folded out towards the sofa on the port side, and there is also a forward-facing navigation table cleverly integrated into the sofa. Furthest forward is a real "owner's cabin" with a generous double berth where you lie with your head towards the forward bulkhead. Large wardrobes and shelving units on both sides aft of the berth. There is a separate toilet area here as an option. The aft cabins feature impressive double berths without the usual tapering towards the stern.
The Bavaria C42 is designed by Cosutti Yacht Design, and the Italian sense of design is evident. Combined with German pragmatism, it provides a modern, functional, and purposeful design where all sailing functions are easily accessible in the cockpit. The boat's modern shape has made it possible to create a cockpit that is record-size for the boat's size. Plenty of space to invite even neighboring crews for After Sail. The two steering wheels provide easy access to the large bathing platform while giving the helmsman a clear view and good control over the boat.
The new C-series has been designed with generous sail area to provide good performance, and the C42 comes standard with a self-tacking jib, making it easy to handle in the archipelago. Combine that with a furling mast and autopilot, and one person can easily handle the boat alone.
